Mac and Cheese Monday

Finally found the perfect khaki trousers while thrifting today. Wheee! Now the weather needs to warm up so I can put away the tights and cardigans.

A nice little elderly lady in the grocery store told me she liked my outfit. Pretty much made my day.

In other news, my friend and I made this mac and cheese last night and it was pretty much the most delicious thing ever. We halved the recipe, but I kind of wish we hadn't...because I'd love some leftovers right now, but there weren't any. (In case you're going to make this and you're wondering whether or not to half it - it easily served four, just no leftovers.) So stop what you're doing and go make this recipe. And also stop by Smitten Kitchen. Such a yummy food blog!

I will never stop complaining about my camera.

Today's photo-taking attempt was a mega-fail because my camera kept dying. These are disastrous results...

Playground!

My boyfriend was off work today and we went on a little trip to the park. Whenever he's able to take pictures with me I like to go to the places I want to take photos but couldn't or wouldn't by myself. Running back and forth between the swings and my camera to set the self-timer would be pretty time-consuming. And I'd probably scare some children. I'm so jealous of those of you who have remotes. There are no remotes compatible with my camera. I neeeeeeeed a new camera!

Haste.

The thing about spring is: it's really cold in the morning, but warm by noon. So, if you have to get up and leave your house early...you want to dress warmly. And then later you'll be like "Oh, it's so lovely! Why am I wearing these silly clothes?!" (This does happen to other people right?) This morning I had an early doctor's appointment, and a little time afterwards before class. This worked out well because I was able to dress warmly for my appointment and change once the early morning coldness passed. However, I only ended up with a few minutes to change because my appointment went way longer than expected...so this is what I hastily threw together.

Today I decided to enjoy the warm weather and venture out of my usual photo location. I started walking on a trail I'm not really familiar with, just looking for anywhere that seemed good for photos. I found an area with lots of big boulder-like rocks that I thought was neat looking, so I ventured up the hill towards it and began wondering around it trying to figure out where to set up my tripod and all that. As I made my way around the rocks I was stunned to see a random guy sitting on the very top of the largest rock. He was facing the sun and it looked like he was meditating. I tried to hurry away quietly because I felt really bad/weird about walking into his meditation zone. As I headed back down the steep heel (trying not to fall and break an ankle) I saw out of the corner of my eye some shirtless guy doing Tai-Chi or something. Again, this guy just kind of appeared out of no where. In both instances it seemed like I should've noticed them way sooner...but instead they just sort of popped up. I was so surprised and felt so awkward that I almost gave up on the idea of taking photos and just headed back home. But the more I thought about it the more I admired them. I'm always so concerned that someone will see me out taking my pictures and think I'm a total weirdo/narcissist. But these guys didn't seem to care about my presence, they didn't even seem to notice me. I promised myself I'd try to be more like them in the future. And then I took these pictures. They didn't turn out that great, but whatever. The end. (I'm really bad at endings...they are always kind of abrupt. Sorry if that was really boring.)

10 Things That Make Me Happy.

The lovely Amanda of off of broadway tagged me with the Happy Blogger Award. Go check out her blog if you haven't already! Ok, so here's 10 things that make me happy. I tried to leave out the obvious things (thrifting, shopping, fashion, etc.)

1) My boyfriend. This is the first photo ever taken of the two of us. (Yes, I used to have long blonde hair.) He always makes me happy, cheers me up and keeps me sane. Someday we will get puppies - an English Bulldog and a Weimaraner to be exact - and their names will be Lola and Milton. That's pretty much our biggest goal and all you really need to know about us.

2) Good movies. This is a screenshot from Away We Go, which I just bought a few days ago. If you haven't seen it yet, go out and rent it. It is so sweet and funny. I absolutely love it. I love the power a good film can have, how much it can effect you emotionally and mentally and how much time you can spend reflecting on it.

3) Live music. I chose this photo because I saw The Decemberists in concert twice last year and both shows were absolutely amazing. If you haven't listened to their newest album The Hazards of Love, you should definitely check it out. It is perhaps my favorite album, ever.

4) Learning. I chose this photo because right now I'm learning to sew. But I there are so many more things I want to learn about. Next semester I'm transferring schools so that I can earn a degree in Fashion and Interior Merchandising and I'm ecstatic about studying something that truly interests me.

5) Asheville. Although I want to travel a lot later in life, I do love this place. I'm so glad I chose to go to college here and that I can stay here for a while even though I'm transferring schools. If you ever get the chance, you must visit!

6) Picnics! Doesn't everyone love picnics?!

7) Naps. I love naps...maybe a little too much. During the past few months naps have been irresistible because my bed is the most appealing place when it's cold outside. Perhaps when it warms up I can take my naps in the sunshine...if only I had a hammock like the lucky girl in that photo...

8) Charleston, SC. I feel a little silly having two cities on here. But one is my current home and one is (hopefully!) my future home. Out of all the places I've traveled I've never loved anywhere as much as Charleston.

9) Cheescake! Yummy. All flavors. It is my absolute favorite dessert. Know any good recipes?

10) Theatre. I was in theatre throughout high school and I've been in one show during college. I absolutely love musical theatre and if I wasn't such a horrible dancer I might have pursued that as a career (as silly as it may sound). I also love directing. Seeing a performance come together is so rewarding as a director, and I loved the few times I was able to direct during high school.

So, now I'm supposed to tag...5 other bloggers I think? I choose...

I tried to check recent entries and make sure you ladies hadn't already done this recently, but sorry if I accidentally re-tagged someone who has!

Alright, room-cleaning time.

All images without a source link were found on weheartit.

Fleeting Spring.

This is what I wore yesterday. I hesitated posting it because it seems a bit boring, and also because I had a horrible day yesterday so I wasn't really eager to document it. But I decided to post it anyways because it seems like it'll be a week or so before I get to wear a comfy dress and go out bare-legged again...the forecast looks quite dreary for a while.

Dress - J. Crew; Shoes - Urban Outfitters; Necklace - American Eagle

I've been searching for the perfect watch/clock style necklace for a while but hadn't found one I truly loved until a few days ago, at American Eagle of all places. I rarely go in that store, but I was out with mom and she wanted to check out their shoes. I was actually surprised at how many things in the store I liked - like this adorable floral bandeau, which I would've grabbed in a second if they had my size. (It's sold out online, too. Frown.)

Yeesh, how did I manage to get almost nothing done this weekend?! I still have a way-too-long to-do list and I feel so behind on blog reading. Off to do homework. meh.

Finally.

The rain is gone and it feels like spring. Ah-mazing. I think I'll go on a picnic and enjoy the sunshine. And then spend my evening sewing. Sounds like perfection.

Back to the Grind.

Sheesh. Spring break really threw me off. Isn't it weird how much we rely on our daily routines? It's Thursday now and I finally feel like I'm back on schedule. I'm sorry for being so absent from blogging! I'm dying to catch up on reading and commenting - I'll definitely do that this weekend.

Today I was told I look like Alice from the new Alice in Wonderland (how have I not seen it yet?!). I don't really know what she looks like...but I'm guessing I was only told that because I'm wearing this big bow in my hair. It gives off an Alice-ish vibe, yes?

Later in the day I bought a necklace and added it to this outfit. I liked the outfit a lot better with said necklace, but alas I have no photo of it!
