It's raining.

No outfit post. See title.

But, I have been thinking a bit about decor lately because my living arrangements next semester will give me a lot more freedom to decorate my space. Modcloth has many cute little pieces I'd love to have in my home.

Remixing.

I feel like a boring blogger. This outfit is pretty much just a remix of all the items I've worn recently. But I refuse to apologize for being addicted to chambray and oxford-heels.

SPRING break!

So today is the first official day of my spring break...and it actually feels like spring! I did a little shopping over the weekend and bought this chambray dress, which I'm wearing as a shirt here. I almost bought a chambray shirt instead...but I figured I could wear this as a shirt and dress which is pretty darn awesome. I've already thought of lots of outfits I can pair it with worn as a shirt. It is perhaps the most multi-functional thing I own. Since it's spring break campus is pretty much abandoned so I ventured out of my usual photo taking location today.

Welp, I'm off to hem and alter all the goodies I picked up at the thrift store today!

P.S. Here's what the shirt looks like as a dress. You'll probably see me wearing it this way soon.

P.P.S. It's really hard for me to keep growing my hair out when Carey Mulligan's looks so darn cute. (And she deserved that Oscar, dammit.)

Basic

I love these shoes. I'll be choosing all my outfits based on them for quite a while, I think. This shirt-dress has been hanging in my closet forever but I've only worn it a few times. But when I ventured into my closet with these shoes in hand I immediately knew I wanted to wear it. Thanks for making me want to wear previously ignored items in my wardrobe, new shoes. I love you, new shoes. So much so that I didn't even care about the rude people in Starbucks whispering about you.

Rosettes and Ruffles.

Photobucket

Photobucket

These pictures didn't out well at all, they're way too dark (except for one mystery close-up which turned out perfectly bright and visible). I guess I waited too late in the day to take them, but I had a good reason! I was awaiting the arrival of my brand new shoes! I was very indecisive about these shoes. They've been on my Forever 21 wishlist since Christmas...but I didn't get them, obviously. I kind of forgot about them for a while until recently. I saw lots of bloggers sporting adorable oxford-like heels and found myself wanting some again. I almost bought them once but convinced myself not to, telling myself I should save money. Then I had one of those getting-ready-realizations. Do you have these? You're getting dressed and as you're putting together your outfit you think to yourself "Hey, you know what would look great with this? That thing I didn't buy!" So after having that feeling a couple of times and reading Kendi's review of these shoes (and seeing her looking adorable in them!) I finally bought them. And I'm so glad I did!

Tank, belt - Urban Outfitters; Cardigan, skirt - J. Crew; Tights - Target; Shoes - Forever 21

This skirt is one of those J. Crew items I told you about. You know, the ones I said were really only warm-weather appropriate so you'd have to wait to see them? Well, I guess I changed my mind. Sure, a mint green ruffle skirt is probably a "spring" item...but I can wear it in the snow!

Photobucket

Mysterious bright photo! I wish I knew more about photography so I could figure out why this happened in this photo and none of my other ones. I was trying to get a close-up so you could see the rosettes on the neckline of this tank top - hence the title of this post.

Well, I'm off to do productive things like cleaning and paper-writing and dinner-cooking. Maybe...

Or maybe I'll just waste some more time on the internet. That seems much more likely.

Think of all the children in the drifts of snow. Winners never quit, but winters never rest.

I know I've been complaining a lot about the winter weather but today I had a slight change of heart. Although I don't like dreary days and frigid temperatures, I'm quite alright with snow days. Snow days mean I don't have to go to class, I can be lazy all day with my boyfriend and spend a copious amount of time blog-reading. Oh, and they mean pretty pictures! Prepare to be bombarded with them.

Bargain Bragging

Photobucket

Photobucket

This outfit features some of my latest purchases, both of which were amazing deals. First of all I must tell you about the J. Crew clearance store. If you are a fan of J. Crew you will be quite jealous that you don't live in Asheville. You probably don't know that J. Crew's central shipping and receiving is located here (I think that's what it's called, anways...I don't know all the exact details on this...). Right beside that industrial/warehouse-looking area is the J. Crew clearance store. Items there are way waaaaaay cheaper than those in the store. I got these jeans for $18 - I'm pretty sure they sell for $98 in store. The items are there for various reasons, most seem to be returns or items that just didn't sell well (maybe they were overproduced, etc.). A few may have slight defects but I've never seen anything unwearable. (It isn't the same as a J. Crew factory or outlet store.) This little clearance store also has seasonal "sidewalk" sales, one of which I attended this weekend. But these sales aren't actually held on a sidewalk, they're inside a warehouse. You walk in and are given a trash bag and a price list sheet. You then proceed to dig through tons of cardboard boxes full of J. Crew goodies in the hopes of finding something you like in your size. And I certainly did. However, the "sidewalk sale" items are much more likely to be damaged in some way. It is also terribly disorganized. I found tons of adorable bathing suit tops during my search but no matching bottoms. And it's not unlikely to find a mismatched shoe that you'd love to buy...which is pretty discouraging. But, if you can stand all that you're likely to find some great deals. If you're not up for that sort of shopping expereince the clearance store is still quite nice and well organized - that's where I found these jeans. I do have some items from the sidewalk sale...most of which are only suited for warm weather so you'll have to wait a while to see them.

Anyways, this corset-like floral top I'm wearing was also a great deal - $20, marked down from $60. I had admired it in the store quite often and daydreamed about it, but it seemed to impractical to spend $60 on. Considering that it's strapless and cropped, it's certainly not the most practical thing I own, but it may be my new favorite thing in my closet. The floral print is just so darn pretty. I love the zipper detail and the fit is perfect. Even though it's not at all winter-appropriate I just couldn't wait to wear it. With a cami underneath and a cardigan and scarf I think it's March-appropriate. Don't you agree?
